Zabti was an important system of revenue assessment in the Mughal period. According to major historical sources and Abu’l Fazl’s account, this system is considered to have begun in Sher Shah’s period, while during Akbar’s reign several changes were made to it and it was made more scientific. In Akbar’s time, the Zabti system later became the basis of the “Ain-e-Dahsala.”
