Explanation

The first ruler of the Slave Dynasty in India was Qutbuddin Aibak (1206–1210 AD). He belonged to a Turkish tribe called Aibak. In childhood, he was purchased as a slave by Qazi Fakhruddin Abdul Aziz Kufi of Nishapur. The Qazi took proper care of him and ensured that he received complete education. Aibak recited the Quran in a very melodious voice; therefore, he became famous as Quran-khwan (one who recites the Quran). Later, he was brought from Nishapur to Ghazni, where Ghori purchased him. Due to his talent, dedication, and honesty, Aibak soon gained Ghori’s trust. Ghori promoted him to the post of Amir-e-Akhur, and from there a new chapter of his life began. He was the first Turkish ruler of Delhi, although he ruled from Lahore. Aibak never formally assumed the title of Sultan. He remained content with the titles of Malik and Sipahsalar. After receiving a deed of manumission from Ghiyasuddin, Ghori’s successor, Aibak was officially freed from slavery in 1208 AD.
