## Page 41 On 20 July, 1924, Bhimrao Ambedkar formed an organisation in Bombay called the ‘Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha’, with the objective of bringing about the moral and material upliftment of the untouchable people. Sir Chimanlal Harilal Setalvad was made its first president, while Ambedkar became the chairman of the managing committee. The resolution of the Sabha was accepted as: educate, agitate and organise. The objective of the Sabha was to place the problems of the untouchables before the government. On 3 April, 1927, he started the Marathi fortnightly ‘Bahishkrit Bharat’ from Bombay.
