Explanation

Viceroy Irwin released Gandhi from jail on 26 January, 1931 to create an atmosphere of harmony in the country. Due to the efforts of Tej Bahadur Sapru, V.S. Srinivasa Sastri, and M.R. Jayakar, talks between Mahatma Gandhi and Irwin began in Delhi in February, 1931. On 5 March, 1931, an agreement was reached between them, which came to be known as the Gandhi–Irwin Pact. In this context, Sarojini Naidu described Gandhi and Irwin as “two Mahatmas”.
