Who founded the ‘Theosophical Society’?

The Theosophical Society was founded in 1875 in New York by Madame H.P. Blavatsky, a Russian woman (now a resident of Ukraine), American Military Officer Colonel Olcott, William Quan Judge, and others. In 1882, the founders established the Society’s headquarters at Adyar near Madras, which later became its international headquarters. In India, the main objective of this institution was to awaken and strengthen people’s self-confidence in ancient Hinduism and to make religion the main basis of social service.
