Who appoints the Governor of Jammu & Kashmir?

Explanation

Under Article 370 of the Constitution, the State of Jammu and Kashmir was given a special arrangement different from other States of India as “temporary provisions” under Part XXI. In this context, earlier the head of the executive there was not appointed by the President of India; rather, he was elected by the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. However, this anomaly was removed in 1965. As a result, the head of the executive in Jammu and Kashmir came to be known as the Governor (instead of Sadr-e-Riyasat), and his appointment began to be made by the President of India. Under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, from 31 October 2019, the State of Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised into two Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh—where the provision of Lieutenant Governors was made, who are appointed by the President.
