On 22–24 March, 1940, the Muslim League session was held at Lahore. It was presided over by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In this session, a resolution was passed demanding ‘independent states’ for the Muslims of the north-western and eastern regions; this is known as the ‘Lahore Resolution’. Later, this ‘Lahore Resolution’ came to be known as the ‘Pakistan Resolution’. However, it is noteworthy that this resolution mentioned neither partition nor the word ‘Pakistan’.
