The Kosi River is known for its continuous change of course. The Kosi is formed by the confluence of three rivers—Sun Koshi, Arun Koshi and Tamur Koshi. All these rivers originate from the Himalayan region of Nepal and Tibet. The original name of the Kosi is Kaushiki. Due to its tendency to change course, it is called the ‘Sorrow of Bihar’. It joins the Ganga near Kursela (Katihar).
