The Bhimbetka archaeological site remained a centre of human activities from the Early Stone Age to the historical period. It is located in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh. Hundreds of examples of prehistoric paintings have been found in the caves of Bhimbetka. The main themes of the rock paintings include collective dance, outlined human figures, hunting, animals and birds, war, and daily activities of ancient human life. So far, about 750 rock shelters have been identified here, and paintings have been found in about 500 of them.
