Explanation

In 1855, the Santhals revolted in Bhognadih village of the Bhagalpur region (presently located in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand). They carried out attacks simultaneously on the police and the dikus, under the leadership of Sidhu (Sido), Kanhu, Chand and Bhairav. To suppress the Santhal rebellion, an army was sent under the leadership of Major Burrough, which the Santhals defeated. Finally, in 1856, Bhagalpur Commissioner Brown and Major General Lloyd brutally crushed the Santhal rebellion.
