On 10 August, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the submarine optical fiber cable project (CANI) for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands through video conferencing. Through this project, people will get high-speed broadband connectivity from Chennai to Port Blair, from Port Blair to Little Andaman, and from Port Blair to Swaraj Dweep. It is noteworthy that in September, 2024, Port Blair was renamed ‘Sri Vijaya Puram’.
