Explanation

Through the 86th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2002, a new Article 21A was added in Part III of the Constitution, under which the State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of 6–14 years. Also, under the amended Directive Principle in Article 45, the State shall endeavour to provide early childhood care and education for all children until they complete the age of 6 years. In the same sequence, the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 was passed by Parliament, which became effective from 1 April, 2010.
