Explanation

The Sadler Commission (Calcutta University Commission) was related to education. In 1917, the Government of India appointed a commission to study the condition and prospects of the University of Calcutta and to submit its report. Dr. M. E. Sadler, who was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds, was appointed as its Chairman. The Commission held that if university education was to be improved, reform of secondary education was essential. It strongly criticized the University Act of 1904 and stated that, because of it, proper coordination between college education and university education was not possible.
