What is the eligibility age after the changes made in March 2024 for senior citizens to vote by postal ballot ?

Explanation

On 1 March 2024, after consultation with the Election Commission, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice amended Rule 27A of the Conduct of Elections Rules 1961, and increased the eligibility age for senior citizens to vote through postal ballot (i.e., voting from home) from above 80 years to above 85 years. In the 2024 Lok Sabha general election, for the first time at an all India level, the facility of home voting through postal ballot was provided to senior citizens above 85 years of age and to persons with benchmark disability of 40% or more.
