This statement was made by Mahatma Gandhi on 8 August 1942 on the occasion of the Quit India Movement. In the session of the All India Congress Committee at the Gowalia Tank ground in Bombay (now Mumbai)—later known as “August Kranti Maidan”—Gandhiji gave this message in the form of his famous slogan “Do or Die”. In his speech, he said that Indians must now resolve that either they will make India free, or they will sacrifice their lives in this effort.
