Explanation

By the 84th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2001, the proviso to Article 81(3) was amended and, in place of the year 2000, the state-wise allocation of seats in the Lok Sabha was fixed up to the year 2026. Until then, the 1971 Census will remain the basis for determining seats in the Lok Sabha.
