Explanation
After 1928, Bardoli (in Surat district of Gujarat) became a centre of political activities. The ‘Mehta brothers’ of Bardoli (Kalyanji and Kunvarji) and Dayalji Desai started an agitation in support of the peasants from 1928. Later, it was led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Under Patel’s leadership, the ‘No-Tax (Sarabandi)’ movement was launched in 1928. It is noteworthy that during the Non-Cooperation Movement, Gandhiji had planned to launch a no-tax (Sarabandi) movement from Bardoli in 1922, but due to the Chauri-Chaura incident, this plan was postponed. The Bihar Public Service Commission has mistakenly written the year of the Sarabandi (no-tax) movement as 1922 instead of 1928, which is incorrect.
