The Public Accounts Committee submits its report to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, and it is presented in the Lok Sabha in the presence of the Speaker. The Public Accounts Committee is a parliamentary committee that exercises control over public expenditure. It consists of 22 members in total—15 from the Lok Sabha and 7 from the Rajya Sabha. Its purpose is to bring before the House the misuse and irregularities in public expenditure. It also recommends action against those public authorities who are found responsible for the misuse of public expenditure. The committee examines public expenditure on the basis of the CAG’s report. Generally, it has been the practice (since 1967) to appoint an opposition member of the Lok Sabha as its Chairperson.
