Explanation

In the then United Front Government, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, S. Jaipal Reddy, introduced the Broadcasting Bill in the Budget Session of 1997. This Bill provided for the establishment of an independent authority, the Broadcasting Authority of India, to facilitate and regulate broadcasting services in India.
