In Bihar, in the matter of irrigation through canals, in 2020–21 Rohtas district ranked first with 3.07 lakh hectares; thereafter West Champaran (1.85 lakh hectares) and Aurangabad (1.61 lakh hectares) were next. In gross irrigated area also, Rohtas district ranked first with 4.15 lakh hectares. According to the Bihar Economic Survey, 2024–25, in 2022–23 the highest gross irrigated area through canals was in Rohtas district (299.40 thousand hectares). Thereafter, West Champaran (182.80 thousand hectares) was next.
