In 1976, the Swaran Singh Committee was constituted to give recommendations on constitutional reforms. On the basis of the Swaran Singh Committee’s recommendations, the 42ⁿ Constitutional Amendment Act, 1976 inserted Part IV-A and, under it, Article 51-A in the Constitution, and 10 Fundamental Duties were included in the Constitution. In 2002, by the 86ᵗʰ Constitutional Amendment Act, 2002, one new Fundamental Duty (related to the education of children in the age group 6–14 years) was added.
