Explanation

The Suez Canal is the world’s largest artificial canal, built in Egypt across the Isthmus of Suez. In 1869, its length was 164 km, and in 2015 its total length was 193.30 km. This canal, which connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, was opened for ship traffic in 1869. At its southern end, at the city of Suez, is Port Tewfik (Suez Port), and at its northern end is Port Said. After the canal was built, the distance between Europe and Asia reduced greatly, because before this canal, ships traveling between Europe and Asia had to go around the African continent.
