Explanation
After the heart-rending incident of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on 13 April, 1919, Rabindranath Tagore returned the ‘Knighthood’ title conferred by the British Crown. Tagore said— “The time has come when medals of honour make our shame glaring in the absurd context of humiliation; as for me, I wish to stand by my countrymen, stripped of all special titles.”
