Explanation
The Royal Titles Act, 1876 was passed by the British Parliament in April, 1876. Under this Act, Queen Victoria was proclaimed the Empress of India at the Delhi Durbar on 1 January, 1877. Similarly, Emperor Edward VII was proclaimed Emperor of India in the year 1903, and George V in the year 1911.
