Nitisara, composed by Kamandaka, is an important collection of 1,192 verses (shlokas). It is arranged into 34 sections (prakaranas) and 20 chapters or cantos (sargas). It includes the traditional branches of learning: the state, its constituents and protection, the Mandala theory of interstate relations, various kinds of policies, war and peace, diplomacy and wisdom, military organization, and the faults that should be avoided. The appendix lists, for comparison, the contents of Kautilya’s Arthashastra and Kamandaka’s Nitisara.
