The epic Kumarasambhavam was composed by the great poet Kalidasa. It has 17 cantos (only the first eight cantos were written by Kalidasa; the remaining nine cantos were written by other poets). It contains vivid description of nature and narrates the birth of Kartikeya and the slaying of Tarakasura.
