Indian Oceanographers discovered three seamounts—one in the Central Indian Ocean Basin, another in the Eastern Arabian Sea, and the third about 455 kilometres south-west of Bombay. The seamount discovered in the Arabian Sea was named Raman Sagar Parvat (Raman Seamount) after the great scientist C. V. Raman. The other two seamounts were named after Pannikar and Wadia.
