Explanation

To remove widespread corruption and misadministration in the Company, the British Parliament passed the Regulating Act, 1773. Under this, the Madras and Bombay Presidencies were brought under the Calcutta Presidency. The Governor of Bengal was now called the Governor-General of Bengal. Warren Hastings was made the first Governor-General of Bengal.
