Explanation
In December 1911, on the arrival of King-Emperor George V and Queen Mary in India, a Durbar was held in Delhi to welcome them. At the Delhi Durbar, on 12 December 1911, the King-Emperor declared the annulment of the Partition of Bengal. He also announced that Delhi would be made the new capital of India in place of Calcutta. In accordance with this announcement, Bengal was reorganised as a new province. Orissa and Bihar were separated from it. Assam was made a new province, as it had been in 1874, and Sylhet was added to it.
