Dadabhai Naoroji (1825–1917) formed the London Indian Society in 1865 along with W. C. Banerjee. Its main objective was to increase political and social awareness among Indian students in England and to place India’s problems before the British public and the government. In 1892, he became the first Indian to be elected to the British House of Commons on the ticket of the Liberal Party. In his book “Poverty and Un-British Rule in India”, Dadabhai Naoroji clearly highlighted India’s economic distress during British rule, and he was the first to propound the Drain of Wealth, that is, the Drain Theory.
