Tuberculosis (Yakshma/Tapedik/Kshaya Rog) is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium named *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. In this disease, the human lungs are affected. Symptoms include fever, continuous cough, blood in the sputum, shortness of breath, etc. According to the Global TB Report 2025 released by the World Health Organization in November 2025, India has recorded a 21% reduction in the annually reported new TB cases. In 2015, the number of TB-affected persons per lakh population in India was 237, which decreased to 187 in 2024. This is almost double the global rate of decline (12%). ## Page 31
