Explanation
The Pala ruler Devapala was a follower of Buddhism. In inscriptions he is called ‘Paramasaugata’. At the request of Balaputradeva, the Shailendra ruler of Java, Devapala donated five villages for building a Buddhist monastery at Nalanda.
