Explanation

Mahatma Gandhi began the Salt Satyagraha on 12 March 1930. He set out from Sabarmati Ashram with 80 companions; including Mahatma Gandhi, there were 81 members in all. After a long journey of 24 days, on 6 April 1930, he symbolically broke the salt law at Dandi and formally inaugurated the Civil Disobedience Movement. Under Gandhi’s leadership, the movement spread across the country. In Tamil Nadu, the Gandhian leader C. Rajagopalachari undertook a Salt Satyagraha march from Tiruchirappalli to Vedaranyam.
