Explanation

As of 31 March 2019, the total length of national highways was 1,32,499 km, which constituted only 2.09 percent of the total road length of the country. However, nearly 40 percent of the total road traffic of India is carried through national highways. According to the Annual Report 2024-25 of the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, the total length of national highways in India is 146,195 km.
