Explanation

In 1911, the British government announced shifting India’s capital from Calcutta to Delhi. After this, on 23 December, 1912, a grand state entry procession of Viceroy Lord Hardinge II was taken out in the new capital, Delhi. On this occasion, in the Chandni Chowk area of Delhi, revolutionaries threw a bomb at the Viceroy’s elephant howdah. In this attack, Lord Hardinge II was seriously injured and the mahout was killed. This attack was planned under the leadership of the revolutionary Rash Behari Bose.
